 International Women's Day 2021

We observed International Women's Day on 8 March 2021.The day began with an inspirational assembly specially prepared by the male students of F.Y.B.Ed and S.Y.B.Ed. Our students then enacted the lives of four trailblazers Savitribai Phule, Dr Anandibai Joshi, Madame Curie and Mother Mary Veronica.

Thereafter we had our guest speaker Ms Sneha DSouza share her journey of women empowerment . Ms Sneha is a trained nurse and has served as  a tutor in a nursing college. She then felt the call to be a teacher and was selected as a Fellow for Teach for India. Here she taught under- privileged government school students as a full time class teacher in the fellowship to bridge their learning gap especially in English- Phonics, reading fluency, reading comprehension and Math skills. Sneha then completed her B.Ed and served as Principal at St Willibrord's Innovative School (Primary Section) where she was in charge of curriculum planning, development and innovations. Presently Sneha is a consultant for Kotak Education Foundation and she trains Principals of diferent schools. Sneha has her own decor company called D day. She has started an initiative 'Hand Me Gown' where brides can rent a bridal gown free of charge. A nature lover to the core, Sneha has awareness sessions regarding recycling and reuse. She has done Interior desgining from Sir J.J School of Arts and one can see her creativity flow through her art work. She is also a graceful dancer and has won many prizes for her creative expressions in varied fields of art. We were fortunate to hear how she decided to be a teacher. She shared how she has helped empower teachers, students and people in key roles in educational instituitions. Sneha reiterated the importance of having faith in oneself and pursuing one's vision unceasingly. As an epitome of hard work, unwavering faith in one's dream and a mind with a sharp focus, Sneha truly inspired us all with her sharing.

The programme concluded with a message from our Manager Sr Ansela and Principal Dr. Mabel Pimenta. Our tech team of students were instrumental in making the programme a success.

Sessions on Legal Provisions for Gender Equity

Students were oriented to various laws that promote gender equity . This was partly as inputs of the Course Gender, School and Society and partly as enrichment inputs on Laws like Prevention of Sexual Harrassment of Women at the Work Place (SHOWW) Act and other laws.

Visits to centres that help in Women Empowerment
Students visited centres like Shramjivi Mahila Mandal to understand the role played by such institutions in women empowerment. This helped better understanding of the course Gender, School and Society. Interacting with the women who manage such places an listening to their stories of empowerment were inspirational.
